First Time Authors
One of the worst things a new author can experience is to expend tremendous amounts of time and energy creating a literary masterpiece, which they believe in their heart will sell, and then upon release it doesn't. Many new authors wish they had been more diligent in their pre-writing preparation process. The most important question an author can answer before writing their manuscript is not, "What will I write about?" but "For whom will I write?”. Whether you are writing a children's book or a book about what Christians believe, you have a message to share and it’s imperative that you identify who your target market is.
For example, the target market for a children's book is not the children, but rather the siblings, friends, parents, and grandparents of the child who will be purchasing and reading the book. If you have a book pertaining to Christian issues or principles, the target market would be churches, ministries and other Christian organizations. Again, the first time author must thoroughly answer the question, “Who am I writing for and who is my target market?”
